West Dunbartonshire’s Music Development Officers, funded by Creative Scotland, provide high quality classroom music tuition by delivering fun, engaging music workshops for children in Primary 4-6 across all 34 primary schools.
Currently Tommy, Claire and Ross deliver weekly hour-long workshops to approximately 800 P4-5 children over the Clydebank and Dumbarton clusters. Richard delivers 8 full-day workshops to Primary 6 children in the 12 schools in the Vale of Leven Cluster.
From these sessions the children learn about pulse, rhythm, pitch, dynamics and tempo. They will also learn to read simple musical notation and understand beats in the bar. The Digital Music classes are delivered using iPads with the latest cutting edge music technology enabling children’s technological skills to be challenged alongside developing their musical skills. The musical sessions build the children’s confidence and self-esteem and encourage all children to engage and contribute.
In addition to this, the team also deliver out of school music activities and Summer holiday transition programmes for P7 children.
